  This school is the furthest thing from a nurturing environment. Their incredibly low standards make it very easy for students who put in the least amount of effort to get 65s-70s, anything to pass the class or even slip them into honors/AP classes. The students are unruly, disrespectful, and have an overwhelming sense of entitlement. A lot of them shouldn't have graduated. This school will not prepare your child for college.

  I am a former student of BLA and am proud to say that I went there! I don't appreciate the comments that reflect negatively on the school because our job as citizens is to uplift our community, not tear it down, and BLA has been a lasting positive influence in the Bronx community. While there were definitely opportunities for improvement, this school offered quality education as well as guidance, with instructors that had/have impressive resumes and some street smarts. There is only so much that can be expected of a school when such institutions are often devoid of sufficient resources and funding in comparison to schools with more affluent families and more money. I urge parents that are unhappy with the school to instead seek ways to raise funds and network so that the school can achieve even more success! I respect the school and all the faculty members who ensured that every kid who entered the school had the tools to become an accomplished adult, I hope that I can do the same when I become a teacher!
